Who needs to pay for a gym when you can train at home?

Who needs to pay for a gym when you can train at home?

August 31, 2017 2 min read

These days more and more people are looking to get in shape and improve their fitness, which has led to a lot more gyms opening up around the country. With so many fitness centres and gyms to choose from it can be overwhelming trying to pick the best place when all you want to do is stay fit and get into shape.

If you don’t like the idea of signing up to a gym, you may find your answer a lot closer to home. Many people think that you have to go to a gym if you want a good workout, but that’s just not true. Although gyms can offer a great range of equipment, they are not always the best option for everyone.

Why should I train at home?

  • If you’re the type of person who feels awkward working out in front of other people then you may feel more comfortable breaking a sweat at home.
  • It can sometimes be intimidating trying to figure out all of the machines at the gym. If this is the case for you then you may benefit more from a simpler workout that doesn’t require any complex techniques or machinery.
  • The cost of a gym membership can often be quite high, which isn’t great if you’re working on a tight budget. There are plenty of home workouts that require little or no equipment.
  • You may not live close to a gym or you may not have much time throughout the week to visit one if you have a hectic schedule or live far away.

Types of home training

Even without all of the fancy equipment you find at the gym, it’s still possible to get a great workout at home by devising an effective plan and working with what you have

Bodyweight training

There is so much you can do with just the weight of your own body. Gym culture has led to a fitness market full of complicated gadgets and gimmicks but people have been using bodyweight training for centuries and the results speak for themselves.

Sit-ups, press-ups and squats are just a few great examples from the huge list of bodyweight exercises that will help to build lean muscle mass and improve your overall health.

Resistance training

This type of training is easy to do and requires very little equipment, making it perfect for those who don’t have time to travel to the gym. It’s all about building strength and increasing muscle endurance through resistance-based exercises. Be sure to check out our blog on how using things like resistance bands can improve your workout.

Weights

If you’re looking to bulk up or improve on your physique there’s no reason you can’t still do weighted exercises at home. This requires a bit of an investment in some equipment but buying a set of free weights is a lot cheaper in the long run than paying a monthly gym membership.
