Here’s how to add water bag training to your workouts for immense strength and conditioning benefits.

Have you ever trained with a water bag (sometimes called an aqua bag)? Water bags are the latest addition to the Gravity Fitness functional fitness training store, and we’ve quickly discovered all the benefits of this training tool.

WHAT IS A WATER BAG?

Water bags are water-filled training tools (a bit like a Bulgarian bag) that can be used for a variety of lifting, loading, throwing, swinging, pulling, rowing, and pushing movements. Water adds weight and a degree of instability that more solid training tools just can’t offer.

WHY USE A WATER BAG FOR TRAINING

Water bag training builds strength, power, stability, and explosiveness like no other training tool we know.

The nature of water means that a water-filled training bag demands more of you than a more traditional piece of equipment. The water will move (and keep moving!) as you train, and you’ll have to overcome that inertia by really working your core, shoulders, back, hips, and legs, especially in hip hinge and rotational movements.

And – as you’d expect from Gravity Fitness – our water bags are fully portable, so you can fold the empty bag down and take it with you for a functional workout wherever you go.

HOW TO TRAIN WITH A WATER BAG

Our water bags use water dynamics to challenge your body during functional training sessions. Anything you can do with a sandbag or Bulgarian bag, you can do with these. Add it into your resistance training sessions, your HIIT workouts, your interval training, use it in WODs, or add it to bodyweight training at home. And because it folds down completely when not in use, it’s the ultimate addition to a small or mobile home gym!

3 BIG BENEFITS OF WATER BAG TRAINING

Build strength – the water bag is an amazing tool for more explosive strength moves like swings and cleans
Target core stability - as the water moves around creating water dynamics, you’ll need to use your strength and stability to control it

Improve technique – the water bag gives you instant feedback about your timing and technique during any exercise
