Gravity Fitness is much more than our online store. We’re a source of education, content, and – we hope – motivation. We truly believe that calisthenics is for everyone, and underpins everything. Calisthenics is movement, and movement is life.
Here are the 10 laws that guide every decision we make.
We believe that bodyweight training – aka calisthenics – is the foundation of all movement. Every training protocol, sport, and form of fitness is rooted in bodyweight movements. Master your own body before progressing on to more complex forms of fitness.
We can all use our bodies to make life-changing transformations to our physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. You don’t have to compete or do fitness events if you don’t want to. The simple act of regular physical movement will have powerful effects on your health.
Unlocking a new calisthenics skill is great, but the most important thing is always the safety of the movement. Always use equipment as intended, and warm up and cool down properly before and after workouts.
We embrace and respect differences in bodies, backgrounds, goals and abilities. Fitness and sport are better when they’re enriched with variety. Be open to learning from others in your fitness community.
The journey of fitness is never over. Challenge yourself with new movements, outlets, thought process and ideas – both in and out of the gym. Strive for growth and improvement and accept there’s no such thing as a finished article.
There are so many interesting people in the fitness sphere. Make your fitness journey a lifelong endeavour by learning from everyone you meet. Keep informed about new developments in fitness and nutrition, and seek guidance from knowledgeable experts.
Enrich your training with a community of chosen friends and training partners. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who inspire you with their values and behaviours. Allow them to encourage you to become the best version of yourself.
Don’t fall into the trap of pushing yourself so hard in training that you burn out. Think about fitness as a life-long bigger picture. Practice self-care with rest days, recovery workouts, and plenty of time in nature.
Goal setting is an important part of everyone’s fitness journey, whether your goals are deeply personal or achieved through public events. Define what success means to you, then allow yourself the freedom to really dream big. There’s a realistic plan for any goal, but first you have to set it.
You never know who is taking inspiration from your fitness decisions. Be a role model through your actions and attitude. Let your values of discipline, commitment, and a positive attitude dictate your health and fitness choices.
