Why aren’t there more calisthenics parks in the UK?
There are a surprising number of calisthenics and workout parks in the UK, but not as many as there are in other countries. Why is that?
· Space constraints - urban areas in the UK often face space limitations and red tape, making it challenging to allocate land for public fitness facilities.
· Climate – the weather isn’t as friendly for outdoor calisthenics as – say – California. This might make local authorities less keen to invest in fitness parks.
· Cultural norms - traditional gyms have dominated the UK fitness scene, and there might still be cultural perception of calisthenics as a niche “underground” scene.
· Visibility – despite its popularity, outdoor calisthenics parks often rely on grassroots demand – which we’re pleased to see is developing fast!

How to train calisthenics if there's no calisthenics park near you?
The calisthenics parks listed here are just a fraction of the ones listed on our map, so do check your location or postcode. But if there’s no outdoor fitness space where you are, why not create your own calisthenics workout area?
For home workouts, get a few fundamental pieces of calisthenics kit like pull up bars (or our famous Portable Pull Up Rack), parallettes, and resistance bands. You’re good to go!
If you’re training at a gym, see if they offer any calisthenics equipment. Many gyms have a rig, and some offer gymnastics rings and parallettes. If there’s a rig or pull up bar, take your own resistance bands or gymnastics rings for a decent calisthenics workout.
For outdoor training, create your own calisthenics park by using flat, stable spaces in public areas – like benches, tables, bike lock-up bars, railings or kids play equipment. There’s plenty you can do just with the floor and bars, but if you’re feeling bold why not take your resistance bands or gymnastics rings and make use of what you can find!
